When is Induction Day in September 2020 and how will it work?

We have updated schedules to remove a number of the larger gatherings to ensure we can maintain social distancing, to support those unable to attend in person live streaming and recorded versions of key presentations will be available. Any student unable to travel in time will not be disadvantaged. Our full induction programme will be made available online.

All international students will have an induction day on 4th September and whole school induction activities will start on 7th September. Students will be able to access induction activities online if they are unable to attend MPW London in person.

We advise that international students aim to arrive on or around 2nd September. This will provide the opportunity for test results to be received prior to induction.

How do I register with a Doctor?

We will assist each student with registration with a Doctor on arrival, and provide ongoing support with scheduling medical appointments during their studies with us.

Are international students able to access NHS treatment if they require it, for COVID-19?

International students who have paid the mandatory Immigration Health Surcharge, or in the case of EU students have an European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), are entitled to free medical care in the UK, including COVID-19 testing as necessary. The extensive arrangements we have put in place in MPW London and KSS’s Halls of Residence are designed to minimise the risk of our students and staff contracting the virus. The NHS is fully prepared to respond quickly to any future escalation and has not become overwhelmed.

I’m worried about gaining my visa at this uncertain time?

Our Head of International Admissions and Visa Compliance is in contact with all registered students around visa arrangements. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you require more individual advice in this area.

I can’t book an IELTS test and so can’t make the condition of my offer – what do I do?

MPW has internal English tests available for students requiring a test whilst should IELTS and other testing centres be closed. We will support students who require a UKVI Secure English Language Test for visa purposes on an individual basis. Please contact us for more information.

What visa preparations do I need to make?

Provide journey and contact details before you travel to the UK

For 2020, you must complete this form online before you arrive in the UK from any country. This includes if you’re travelling from a country or territory where you do not have to self-isolate when you arrive in the UK. You must complete this form even if you’ve already completed a different form to enter another country.
  • Before you start you will need:
  • your passport information
  • your travel details, including times and dates
  • the address where you will stay in the UK (if applicable)

You cannot submit this form until 48 hours before your arrival time in the UK.

Police registration
Nationals of certain countries will  need to register with the police  when they arrive in the UK. This needs to be done within seven days of arrival in the country. If you need to do this, it will be stated on your 30 day vignette or visa decision letter. When you register, you will receive a certificate of registration from the police which you will need to keep safe as you will need to show this to extend your stay in the UK. MPW will give you more details about this process at induction or in your joining instructions. If you have police registration on your visa and you will arrive more than seven days before the start of term, please contact the MPW international team for more information.

Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs)
If your course is longer than six months and you require a student visa, you will receive a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP).  A BRP is a card with your photo and visa information and this will be your proof of permission to stay.  You will receive your BRP once you are in the UK and a short-stay stamp in your passport when you apply for entry clearance to allow you to enter the country.

This means that when you apply for entry clearance, if it is granted, your passport will be returned with a short term visa valid for 30 days.  This will give you time to enter the UK based on the dates you give in your application.  You will then have 10 days from arrival to obtain your BRP.

Don’t worry; MPW will give you more information about how to collect your card when you arrive, either from the college or the post office you selected when you applied for your visa from outside the UK.

EU Settlement Scheme
The EU Settlement Scheme will enable EEA and Swiss nationals to continue living in the UK longer-term with the same access to work, study, benefits and public services. With a status under the EU Settlement Scheme will you be able to study and work in the UK and are eligible to use the National Health Services.

Options are to apply for the Pre-settled Status or Settled Status – a student will apply for the Pre-settled status if they have less than 5 years of continuous residence.

If you have been studying in the UK and have 5 years or more of continuous residence, they can apply for the Settled status. Five years' continuous residence means that for 5 years in a row you've been in the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man for at least 6 months in any 12-month period.

Once the Pre-settled status is obtained, it is valid for 5 years. You will have to apply for the Settled Status after 5 years of residence which will either be when your Pre-settled status expires, or if they have already been living in the UK, you will be able to apply as soon as it has been 5 years of continuous residence.
